My problem with conspiracy theories, dictatorships, oligarchies, mafias, and all the other collections of people pointing to single or small group control of masses of people, is why. Why do you want to control everybody? I just can't understand what causes a person or group to want or need to control others.

This two-part series, The Conspiracy Question, offers a thoughtful entry into the psychology of control systems. Yet the core framing presents a structural contradiction. It outlines a centralised architecture: media coordination, BIS hegemony, digital ID regimes, oligarchic convergence. But after naming this machinery, it denies elite authorship—arguing instead for emergent resonance, shared ideology, and co-responsibility. This substitution of metaphor for mechanism leaves the system intact but unaccounted for.

The structure of the argument rests on a suite of containment fallacies: false binaries between omniscient control and chaotic emergence; appeals to complexity that obscure coordinated strategy; metaphors that spiritualise power; and emotional guilt appeals that deactivate critical inquiry.

While the articles rightly caution against reductionism, the framing dissolves power asymmetry. The system described is not spontaneous. Its narrative cycles, institutional harmonies, and enforcement logistics are neither mystical nor accidental—they are outcomes of design. What is left unnamed is crucial: command layers, strategic coders, and the ritual logic of perception management.

Moreover, if elites are not steering, what is gained by “examining their psychology”? If they’re mere participants in a resonant field, such charting is redundant. But if they script, gatekeep, and execute—then naming them becomes essential. That’s the unresolved tension in the thesis.

Naming power precisely is not fanaticism—it is responsibility. Without that, critique becomes catharsis, and the architecture described continues, authorless and unchallenged.

Hi Matthias – very important questions indeed, and gaining clear insights is crucial, when it comes to thinking about ways we can resist-in-common (without devolving into reactionary fantatics) and grow ourselves more capable of doing better (that is, resisting ruinous false divisions and recognizing common humanity and fundamental common purposes, so much more important than the latest featured – and all too often concocted – dramas).

I grew up in a sixites commune that began with optimistic ideas, and descended into the most demented kind of cult, before self-destructing utterly, over real-estate speculation with members pooled funds (so many dimensions to what went wrong, almost all of them relevant, to our own modern unravelling).

But the particular factor which I see least discussed amongst the survivors of that experimental madness, is the extent to which the members own intense craving for external direction – more or less pulled a malign authority structure out of people who were in authority positionally, but were never psychologically suited for such intense demands for so many (let alone the unholy empowerment of evil which a self-offering zombie horde awakens, in those of fragile morals). Tragedy followed.

I do not mean in any way to excuse the evil of the creeps who conspire, abuse their secret knowledge about others, and keep secret that which the whole collective must know – simply in order to be able to ‘steer the ship’ responsibly. All I’m saying is that if we don’t also look at our own unwholesome desire to surrender to authority (and with that surrender, transfer our own moral accountability to them also) it is inevitable that someone else will find a clever and appealing way to gather those hanging threads of our own enduring weakness, and then use them for still more unwholesome inhumane purposes.

Strangest bonus angle? I am absolutely freaked-out by the extent to which the contradictory pastiche of invasive psychological ideas employed by the cult, approximate the results of our modern digital panopticon invasion.

They know EVERYTHING about us, and we know nothing about what they do with that knowledge – only that if their past record is anything to go on, it ain’t humane, and it ain’t anything we’d vote for!

Thank you for what you do, Matthias. Always thought provoking, and yet also always qualified and responsible in a way many who challenge the biggest games, often lose sight of.

Hats off to you for it!

Recently, I came across posts on social media regarding the extensive camera surveillance in Singapore and China. Women in the comments were very happy with the presence of such devices. They declared how far ahead these societies were compared to the West in protecting women. Same line of reasoning is attributed to widespread deployment of camera surveillance in many cities in India. In China these cameras have bee hooked up to facial recognition systems as well.

In your writings, totalitarianism is understood in terms of the West. However, the current push for totalitarianism is also much inspired from what I call the Singapore-China model of society.

In India, a significant part of the populations covertly despises India's democratic structure. They believe if only the curse of secular democracy, imposed on India by the evil Gandhi and Nehru can be lifted, than poverty will end through China like control measures and the Muslims will finally be put in their place.

In some sense, China like state is a self-referencing system. Everything looks great, because only the things which look great can be seen. Recently, one of my relatives described how even small cities in China were developed far beyond India. He happened to see such a city, when he was called to China as part of a high ranking Indian delegation. Somehow, the he did not grasp that a city Indian delegation was specifically invited to, cannot be considered to be representative of all small cities in China. Obviously, China has prospered and emerged as a great nation, but some of the things presented in media border on the fantastical. As the saying goes, if something is too good to be true, it probably is.

Another curious observation took place when Trump imposed tariffs on China. Major media outlets and influencers pompously asserted that China was so strong, that its Government will be completely unbothered by the tariffs. This made little economic sense. One could argue, that US would hurt more. However, it does not make any sense to say it wont have an impact on China. Recently, a left-leaning media house in India was caught receiving money from China for pushing propaganda. There was also a major scandal in UK, regarding the Chinese links of Jeremy Hunt. His wife, used to present CCP propaganda program. Scandals also arose around "China in Focus" style sections being run by many newspapers, in return of payment by the Government of China. There have been reports of illegal Chinese police stations poping up in cities like Amsterdam to control Chinese citizens studying abroad.

All in all to say, that for many, China and Singapore represent for many people the next step of humanity. By tightly controlling the population, unbelievable riches will be gained. During the Covid-19 pandemic, so Western leaders were envious of the advanced tracking systems present in China, which could not be imposed in West due to pesky concerns of individual freedom. This idea depends of China and Singapore being believed to be extraordinarily successful societies, where the success is believed to be direct result of the control grid. Any reference of the hard working nature of Chinese people is shrugged away, and Japan, a highly democratic nation which is on par with Singapore and China, is conveniently forgotten. There are floods in Japan, sexual harassment in Japan, and all such evils of human existence. It is almost seems like Singapore has solved all such technical issues.

The aim of this note was to bring to your attention this factor in the drive towards totalitarianism.

Sad. My post and list of events was erased. As long as people continue to duck their heads and not ciriticise what is so obvious because they fear being labelled antisemties so much that they censor others, things will continue worsening as is th acase in occupied Palestine. The good news is that the more people search for far-fetched excuses and write prose to cover the obvious like Desmet does, the more anger will rise in more and more people, which is not good news for a number of people. Nice prose, but so long Desmet!

I agree. I do not think that Mattias considers the practical concerns. I understand and appreciate the theory as much as anyone....but the theory must offer an actual way of solving our real problems.

We needed the answers a few years ago. It's almost too late. And others have already presented correct theory here by now. Actually, the theory was always out there. Long before the world of podcasts. Interested parties simply had to do the work of finding and reading it.

Thanks, good idea for a series. Blacks and other so-called minorities in ghettos and Natives on reservations, some officially POW camps, have been "open-air concentration camp"s for a long time. One of the key roots is from the Doctrine of Christian Discovery (Domination, and Dehumanziation), which btw still too-often affects legal decisions in the US in favor of the ruling class: “Pope Nicholas V issued the papal bull Dum Diversas on 18 June, 1452. It authorised Afonso V of Portugal to reduce any ‘Saracens (Muslims) and pagans and any other unbelievers’ to perpetual slavery. This facilitated the Portuguese slave trade from West Africa.... ‘- to invade, search out, capture, vanquish, and subdue all Saracens and pagans whatsoever, and other enemies of Christ wheresoever placed, and the kingdoms, dukedoms, principalities, dominions, possessions, and all movable and immovable goods whatsoever held and possessed by them and to reduce their persons to perpetual slavery, and to apply and appropriate to himself and his successors the kingdoms, dukedoms, counties, principalities, dominions, possessions, and goods, and to convert them to his and their use and profit –’”.

I first learned about mass surveillance and the concept of the panopticon from the writing (The Traveler Trilogy - fantastic books) of John Twelve Hawks many years ago. This author, whose real name is unknown, lived off grid.

At the time I was horrified to find a note at the back of the first book explaining that all the systems described within were already in use and the names of those responsible. Knowing what I did from that point gave me a head start I guess and made me more alert to not only technology but policy.

The panopticon, I've realised more and more over time, is being built around us and encompasses our whole society. It doesn't need to be a physical structure when the globalist cabal has the technocracy within their ranks.

Only those who consider themselves the future humans plan to be outside of the invisible structure (most likely in their underground luxury dwellings in time ...) and we, the useless eaters, forced to choose between total compliance or survival of the fittest outside of the control zones. We still have time to make good choices. Let us use it wisely.

Here in the U.S., it is like we're living again during the 18th, 19th, and 20th Century genocide of Indians (Native people) as far as the wholesale slaughter of Palestinians is concerned. These are people who are not white, but whose land white people intend to steal, so it's either, "Scram!--or we'll happily kill you and your children." (I'm referring to videos of the charred Palestinian girl being shown at Israeli weddings where they sing, dance, and stab knives into the picture). Most of the population of white people could not care less, going on about their lives as usual. I think people who do not care about this are monsters, and all the totalitarian state needs to carry on with the killing of innocent children, women and men. How can you change monsters' minds?
