Oh man. Thank you for your beautiful and deep note.
The thing is, we - humans, stands one foot on the material ground and another on something beyond. And we bring from beyond to our ground, that way we create culture, which is everything expressed in non material way.
But what is life? It is a process that creates... NEW. Something that wasn't before. It's strange but why it creates? You may create an enormous amount of stuff, but you may drown in it. You don't want it. So why Life creates? Maybe because it is Love, and Love always creates... something NEW. It has to be something new, because only such existence may be fully loved and it has to be free, because only such existence can return real LOVE.
So you're right, balance is everything. We need rules, culture, numbers etc. But all of is can be created to support our "beyond side" or to stifle it. When rules and ideas become god or undeniable "truth", then "beyond" become banished and forgotten. Than as king Midas we can transform everything according to our desires but it has no value of sustaining life, is becomes harbinger of death.
So there are two "sides", two "forces". One is Love, which creates and brings freedom. Other is Greed, desire for control, which subjugates everything to itself, devour everything and ultimately collapses into itself, which for the lack of better metaphor can be recognized as "hell".
Se we need some freedom. Even and maybe especially from ourselves, from our own "I want", our own convictions, etc. We need to be in touch with BEYOND and simultaneously be HERE. Balance is everything.
Thank you for YOUR beautiful and deep note. Greed may well be the most fundamental human flaw: more order, more control, more power, more money, sex, drugs, rock and roll. I’m greedy for more sleep and free time, but that's a selfish slide into laziness, uselessness, accomplishing little of meaning outside of myself. It’s another dead end. Our best selves live outside of ourselves.
Your note validated my thought. Before opening Dr. Desmet’s essay, I set aside a document I’m compiling on what the Bible says about greed: nothing good. But what if, Zbigniew, what if we rethink greed, call it hunger or passion, and harness and direct it toward loving God and loving people? What if we greedily seek His face, greedily find people who need love, and greedily seek ways to love them to the glory of God?
Like Jesus said, seek first His kingdom: love God, love our neighbors. Surely, the Master Designer knows what we need, what we want, and what we most crave: Him!
Beautifully written, a poetry of observation and musings, Dr. Desmet.
I believe in his quest for orderliness, man has suppressed the expression of his soul. Combined with the urges of power and control, man has suppressed free will in other men. Man cannot live life to its fullest capacity, to allow the brain and the soul to fulfill their individual mandates, when he allows himself to be submissive to the fantasy of power and control of the totalitarian. In the end, man, by his individual nature, must rebel and reclaim his free will and destiny.
Having spent a lengthy time in philosophy and it’s off shoots , I reached a belief that much that is written by those we know and appreciate - actually has its Genesis in the Holy Bible.
For once I can agree with 95% of this post. There’s something truthful in that image of the “gilded cage”… yet there’s also a kind of nostalgic absolutism hiding in this critique of technology — as if human beings were ever truly free, simply because they once grew carrots or spun wool. Don't take this wrong, in my core I'm a nostalgic romantic. I find the Soul in imperfections. But we get lost in 'digital mythopoeia' and 'cargo cult science' (cfr Feyman)
The paradox, perhaps, is that we are not imprisoned by technology itself (or 'the Enlightment'), but that through technology we finally see how deep our desire for imprisonment runs — for structure, ritual, meaning. The smartphone isn’t the problem; it’s the symptom of an old thirst for oracle and distraction.
We haven’t just de-souled the world — it reaches further, we’ve digitized the soul.
And maybe that’s the real tragedy… or the next chapter in our myth of progress, or rather, most likely our downfall. We keep on producing mythopoeia. Producing mythopoeia is our fate. Digital mythopoeia is our enslaving mirror.
"The young man who shows us around tells us proudly that they are leaving behind their tradition of eating meat. It’s better for the climate, he says."
That is the most insane part of this wonderful essay and travelogue. The woke propaganda has reached the outer limits of earth, at over 10,000 feet elevation, in the middle of nowhere.
Modern medicine thrives on making us sick and then keeping us just well enough to function with pharmaceuticals. I wonder how long the villagers will live, abstaining from the diet their bodies have become accustomed to for millennia. I wonder how long the village will survive.
Agreed. Totalitarianism is evil, and evil is stupid. The taint of evil that lurks among us should embarrass all of us. To humanity's disgrace, many revel in evil. Love will catch up with them in the form of justice. That's my prayer and mission.
What gorgeous, profound writing! Thank you. I truly believe that having flirted with totalitarianism, having almost been captured by it, human beings will pull back from the brink and choose beauty, creativity, kindness, freedom and community, even if the price is a little chaos. Why do I think so? Because in essence this is who we are.
Harari is just the last dying gasp of the dualistic Baconian worldview that in any case is no longer keeping up with the latest discoveries in astrophysics, plasma physics (see Robert Temple's magnificent new book A New Science of Heaven), and other sciences. The fact is, after 500 years of scientific rationalism, it is now returning to close the circle with what mystics and poets knew for millennia. Using materialist rationale to "disprove" the existence of the soul is a tautology and if Harari were anything more than a subpar intellectual he would know this.
And as far as Neuralink brain chips are concerned, this is likely a doomed venture. Elon Musk has swept under the rug the fact that nearly all of the lab monkeys who received versions of these chips suffered horribly and had to be euthanized. And when was the last time we heard a report on the human volunteer who had one implanted? So far, not a word.
As we found with genetic therapy in the '90s, even DNA taken from the body, then altered to supposedly "cure" a disease and re-injected into the patient, is perceived by the immune system as an invader and is attacked, sometimes with fatal consequences. As both Dr. Robert Malone and James LeFanu in his book The Rise and Fall of Modern Medicine have made amply clear, genetic medicine was a dead duck by the dawn of the 21st century, proven incompatible with the human body, just as brain chips are likely to be. That they resurrected it for Covid "vaccines" is merely an indication of how corrupt our medical systems had become by 2020.
As you say, Mattias, the human soul is resilient and ultimately triumphant.
A very beautiful article…eventually. The truth is not able to be subjugated. May we each be sovereign and most of all in touch with the essence of life, within and without.
Eloquent and profoundly stated.
Thank you, I had a beautiful time being lost in your words. Now back to being pushed through the mesh! 😉
Thank you, Mattias. You have been an Inspiration for us in difficult times.
Your integrity is your highest value. And, wonderfully, it is in our (stressing “our”!) highest good to act accordingly.
Let’s continue to inspire one another to do so 🤗
.. logic .. is another order .. and it is .. consecutive .. that simply ..
That's it.

Interesting idea, although from my perspective and understanding it will be a misuse of word "Greed".
We may crave for God. We may crave for Love. We may crave for our own child.
But Greed express itself - that's my understanding - in ownership, in desire to have in control what we desire.
I think: One does not want to control God. Does not want to subdue Love. Does not want to own it's own child.
Greed is a process like a vortex, it sucks everything into itself, into "myself", into "I". It is outside-in.
Love is a process like a source, it brings from itself and offers to the reality, to others. It is inside-out.

A wonderfully humane riposte to the sterility and nihilism of our times, thank you.
Wonderful work Mattias.

A beautiful and stunning piece. Thank you.
Totalitarianism doesn’t win in the end against stupid as it desires to control life itself .
Stupid is a life force vastly underestimated yet it’s so embarrassing none will admit it.
