Wonderful piece. Seldom have I found everything I would want to say expressed all in one space with the same urgency I too feel but much more clarity and cohesion than I could manage. Thank you.
The enlightenment was the beginning of the dark times we are living now. The intellect as Aquinas well said it it’s just a small portion of the life of the soul. We live in God’s world, we are part of His creation and as faster we understand that we understand our dignity, our sacredness and our destiny and our purpose, if we accept this relationship with the once who created us because we have been bestowed with free will. Three things we share with God, intellect, memory and free will as we are as His image. At the end the story of humanity is a love story. A beautiful and powerful one but we cannot be like God, He is inmensurable and mysterious and we only know what He has revealed to us in order to get to know Him and His plan. Men want to be gods, we are living a most pure narcissist era but into the deep everything is going to God’s plan, who is good to be in the next life together with God is a question to each of us. We know that God is Good and is Love and Beauty, nothing that is evil, bad and ugly can be near Him or His realm. It’s time to choose.
"Among this group, there was also a young girl – a sign of childlike innocence and purity."
I'm afraid this young actor was not there to mitigate, with her innocense and purity, the overall vile and perverse parody of the last supper. If you look at the man in black beside her, his gestures do imply that this innocent child (ten year old Adeline Kerry Cruz if you are interested to know for more details about her) is symbolically destined to be slaughtered for sacrifice.
"Think of Harari’s Homo Deus: humans themselves will become God."
"The Enlightenment tradition marked the historical moment when humanity changed compass and direction."
The goal set by Harari in Homo Deus directly results from the "Enlightenment tradition", that was not the deliberate choice of humanity. It was inflicted upon humanity by the Globalists, who already more than 120 years ago made their intentions known to us as they did later for their Communist 2030 agenda ("You will own nothing and be happy"): "When we introduced into the State organism the poison of Liberalism its whole political complexion underwent a change. States have been seized with a mortal illness—blood poisoning. All that remains is to await the end of their death agony."
It seems obvious to me that our society no longer has to wait and has reached the end of that process. This is what this "ceremony" demonstrates.
Eloquently stated! Thank you, your perspective swelled my heart with resonant clarity as you put into words every thought and feeling crowding my own mind with confusion. How does this happen, why do civilizations rise then fall into decadent ruin? Is this the natural order of all things? As one era is replaced by another is it our destiny to witness stark extremes of light and dark energy in the process of transformation so that we are forced to see things we prefer to ignore? As in—If we don’t believe it’s broken, we don’t make any attempt to fix it. In each new dispensation, humans shine a brighter light, a greater message and cast the net of unity further and wider, establishing a more diverse population. The spirit did return, manifested again as the Glory of God, and His light is spreading and causing very dark shadows in its wake. We are living in the half light, the dawn of a new era and it won’t be in the shadows of the WEF, or the Cabal, or the elite technocrats who all compete for world dominance- it will be in the full Glory of God, the Light of this world with overpower the dark world of pagan worshipping fallen angels and their vain imaginings..
I have no proof, but to me this is yet another crack in the mirror for all of “we peasants” ( that’s the way these rich deep state satanist elites view us) to see who these creatures truly are. Their biggest fear is that we see trough their facade and then we no longer listen to them and their puppets. If they don’t have the people, they have no power over the people. Fool me once. . .
I agree that just Reason alone is not enough, there much more to take into account to organize a society in the best possible way. However, according to what I know, the Enlightenment tradition did not sweep the idea of ethics as a guiding principle off the table. Rather, Enlightenment philosophers sought to establish moral principles based on reason rather than religious dogma. Some of the key developments in Enlightenment ethics include for example:
- Immanuel Kant's emphasis on duty and universal moral laws, such as the categorical imperative to "Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law". Kant argued that moral actions should be guided by reason and that individuals should treat others as ends in themselves rather than mere means.
- Jeremy Bentham's philosophy of utilitarianism, which focused on maximizing happiness for the greatest number of people.
- The resurgence of virtue ethics, with thinkers like Adam Smith emphasizing character development through virtues such as prudence, justice, and benevolence.
- Mary Wollstonecraft's advocacy for gender equality and women's rights, arguing for equal opportunities for education and self-improvement.
So while Enlightenment thinkers challenged traditional notions of morality based on religious dogma, they sought to establish new ethical frameworks grounded in reason, human dignity, and the pursuit of happiness and virtue. Enlightenment ethics continue to shape modern moral discourse on human rights, social justice, and the role of character development. No?
Nice writing. It is prose like this, that confuses the truth. Trans people are whack jobs. The whole entire community. Jesus doesn't care about mockery. Most Christians don't either. To support that crap shows how weak our society has become.
That adults can be so obsessed with sex that they have to tell me and my children about their obsession?
Isn't the person that comes out as "different" really saying, "I identify as someone who does weird stuff with their sex organs?"
Where I would like to hear, I am a janitor, a plumber, a secretary, an engineer, a nurse, a doctor, etc.
We now get a Starbucks coffee description of themselves wrapped up in a bizarre list of nonsense..
Christians are not surprised, believing that we are living in the Last Days even though Jesus of Nazareth said that no man would know the day nor the hour.
This was an excellent review of what has occurred since The Enlightenment. I think the printing press and the Protestant Reformation empowered rebellion.
However, lest you think that the Middle Ages was particularly Christian or ethical, look at and dwell upon what you see in the Medieval art that depicts THE Crucifixion. It reveals a very DARK time, centuries of darkness, after the fall of Rome. The Enlightenment brought light into the darkness but as is always the case, a mon avis, mankind used nature's gifts of increased reason, to boast and lean on his pride instead of humbly submitting his rediscovered powers of rational thought to an Almighty G-d.
On the other hand, I'd blame the rise of the European Church/State rather than philosophers. The Church/State, maybe especially in the kingdoms of France and England, were power centers of false pride that found ever more ingenious ways to oppress and manipulate the masses.
Ideas of The Enlightenment did not reach the church state authorities in ancient Rus, and there, as in China, but more than in China, we see what happens or what did not happen, to a landlocked people who were taxed under Russian autocrats. In Russia, we see little of The Enlightenment apart from the import of the arts by way of Peter the Great's St. Petersburg which actually took place during The Enlightenment/aka The Age of Reason. The serfs remained unfree until Czar Alexander in the late 1800's. So much for Reason.
The greatest enlightening seemed to happen when men built ships and sailed to foreign places, trading with foreigners. This opened the minds of small minded people: coming into contact with foreigners and "doing business" /trading with them. To me, true enlightenment means the recognition that doing business is better than making war.
WOW. WOW. WOW. Mr. Desmet, This is an amazing, thought-provovoking essay. I feel like I'm back in my sophomore college class, and I mean that as a definite compliment. Your essay was pleasurable reading, and it "made sense."
Your last sentences give me really the impression that you’re convinced that the dark master, who inspired the olympics will be the winner at the end: ‘ They are also not about to conquer their absolute freedom, sexually and otherwise. On the contrary, they are on the verge of being completely enslaved. And the Olympic opening ceremony shows us more clearly than ever who their Master will be’
However Mattias, you forget one thing: our Creator, God, the Almighty, is THE STRONGEST. He will be the CONQUEROR.
Read the Revelation 19, 19-21 and realise that everybody who thinks that the ‘inspirator of the olympic games’ will winn, is a real idiot. GOD the Almighty, the Creator of us all, will have, together with his Son Jezus Christ and the Wholy Ghost, the last word:
‘And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.’
Thank you for sharing your insights on the evolution of the enlightenment movement, the redefinition of the individual within modern society, and the perils of some current trends. The Olympics opening ceremony reflects many odd aspects of our contemporary cultural confusion today.
Yet it seems a tad reactive to reject the dedicated athletes because of a misguided opening ceremony. Why blame or reject the exceptional individual athletes and boycott the games? Why not savor the possibilities of watching human excellence in the physical competition?
“Let’s ring the bells that ring the bells that can still be rung”, as the poet Leonard Cohen sang. “There’s a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”
I wouldn’t say reject or blame, it seems to me a misinterpretation, but they would certainly have consequences.
« Why not savor the possibilities of watching human excellence in the physical competition? »
Because at times, there are decisions to be made, depending on the gravity of the situation, let it pass, that’s what we have been doing (globally) for far too long, We see where it takes us. This story, like many others, has an impact on our societies and the beings that make up it, it imposes its drifts in the public space. Sometimes we pay the price of certain actions, so life goes, there are choices to make, if totalitarianism is possible, it’s by what we let go.
Poetry is beautiful, but it’s not enough, that would be seen since, poets there are.
I respectfully disagree on the state of the propaganda apparatus. It is actually going into overdrive. The mainstream media are being replaced by a more centralized propaganda platform called ‘X’. Or did we forget what Elon Musk himself said about his ‘everything app’ for which he pointed to the Chinese WeChat as a model? A key ingredient of totalitarian power is centralization, and that includes the centralization of ‘news’, aka propaganda. So I would say “Never underestimate the enemy!” Especially in view of what is currently at stake..
Weimar Republic on steroids?

In fact! The innocent child will be sacrificed in the temple of Satan. Or more subtly... Innocence will be removed from society.
